New signing David Artell made his first appearance for Morecambe as the Shrimps were defeated by Carlisle United at Christie Park.

The visitors went ahead in the 21st minute when Neale McDermott setup Danny Graham who produced a cool finish to score past trialist goalkeeper Scott Tynan.

Morecambe's equaliser came in the 77th minute when David McNiven dispossessed a Carlisle defender before finishing the resulting one on one.

However, Carlisle scored the winner three minutes later when Danny Carlton headed home a Simon Hackney cross.
