Morecambe tasted defeast for the first time 10 games as they suffered a rare defeat to Aldershot.

Sammy McIlroy's side trailed at the break to Marvin Morgan's 15th minute strike.

The giant striker took advantage of Scot Donnelly's excellent through ball to steer a left foot shot past`Scott Davies from the left hand side of the area.

From there Morecambe had the better of the play but wasted several good chances.

Paul Mullin went close on several occasions, forcing Mikhael Ruiz into a good save low down to his right on 16 minutes before producing two headers and a shot that just failed to hit the target..

Michael Twiss failed to take advantage of an excellent through ball and Ian Craney volleyed over from close range after a good knock down from Mullin.

At the other end Davies had to save well from Kirk Hudson and Louis Soares.

Morecambe's hopes of a second half comeback were dashed just seconds after the restart when Morgan's right wing cross from the right was diverted past his own keeper by Craig Stanley.

The Shrimps' defence then fell apart as Davies and defender Laurence Wilson got themselves in a mess and Kirk Hudson took advantage by slotting the loose ball into the empty net.

Things got worse for Morecambe when they conceded a fourth 10 minutes from time when Louie Soares latched on a Lewis Chalmers through ball to slot past Davies.

Morecambe scored a consolation goal in injury time when Paul Mullin slid home Ian Craney's cross but it was too little too late for the visitors.

Keeper Barry Roche misses a league game for the first time since joining the Shrimps through injury.
