A goal from Phil Jevons on 18 minutes gave Morecambe victory in this tight game against their close rivals.
Jevons scored with a sweet left foot volley after Garry Hunter had a shot that was saved by the legs of Port Vale keeper Joe Anyon. Paul Mullin's follow up was also blocked and Jevons was on hand to lash home the lose ball from 12 yards.
The remainder of the first half saw the ball swing from end to end with Port Vale threatening on the break. Barry Roche had to save smartly from Craig Davies, Lewis Haldane and Marc Richards.
But the Shrimps also threatened as well with Mullin having a big shout for a penalty when he looked to be bundled over in the box but the referee waved play on.
Joe Anyon was forced to save well from Craig Stanley on 38 minutes.
The second half saw Port Vale pile on the pressure and were unlucky not to equalise when Marc Richards headed against the foot of the post with Barry Roche beaten.
From there Morecambe defended superbly as Port Vale enjoyed a great deal of pressure and limited to the Valiants to long range efforts.
At the other end Manny Panther and Wayne Curtis went close and Craig Stanley, who won the man of the match award, fired wide from a good opening as the Shrimps completed the double over Micky Adams's side.
Boss Sammy McIlroy made one change to the side that drew 0-0 with Bury in midweek.
Darren Moss comes in at right back for his first start since September with Andy Parrish switching to left back with the absence of Laurence Wilson who starts his two match ban after picking up 10 bookings.
