A GOAL from midfielder Garry Hunter earned Morecambe a play off spot as they finished the League 2 season superbly.

In their final ever league game at Christie Park before moving to their new stadium Sammy McIlroy's side produced an excellent second half performance to clinch fourth spot in League Two.

Hunter slotted home Paul Mullin's low cross after a long clearance from home keeper Barry Roche caused the Shots' defence problems.

Aldershot started the game on the front foot and wasted a string of chances in the first period with Damien Spence and Marlon Jackson both missing the target when they should have done better.

Mullin went close for Morecambe with a header that was well saved by Jamie Young.

Morecambe: Roche; Parrish, Bentley, Artell, Moss; Hunter, Drummond, Stanley, Wilson; Duffy, Mullin. Subs: Davies, Curtis, Wainwright, Panther, McLachlan, Taylor, Haining.
