AN early goal from Joe Anyinsah ended the Shrimps' FA Cup hopes tonight.
Anyinsah scored after a slick passing move which saw the experienced Graham Kavanagh play in the winger who finished superbly past Barry Roche.
From there Morecambe dominated but missed a host of chances. Dave Artell headed wide twice from close range and Michael Twiss twice missed the target when he should have scored.
Phil Jevons saw a free kick tipped over by Lenny Pidgeley and the half ended with a goalmouth scramble after Twiss's effort was fumbled by the Carlisle keeper.
The second half saw the Shrimps continue to press with Twiss missing a golden opportunity after a Paul Mullin header across goal. Phil Jevons and Craig Stanley came within an inch of hitting the target but Carlisle keeper Lenny Pidgeley wasn't tested enough.
Carlisle came close themselves with Roche saving well from Tom Taiwo and Vincent Pericard as Carlisle earned the second round tie with Norwich.
