MORECAMBE sufferred their first defeat in three games at Aldershot this afternoon.
Morecambe dominated the second half but could not fight their way back into the game after finding themselves two goals down at the break.
Morecambe started brightly and forced a string of early corner with Stewart Drummond going close with a header and Paul Mullin drilling a loose ball into the side netting after a good move involving Mark Duffy.
Aldershot went ahead on 26 minutes. Ben Harding swung in a right wing corner and Damien Spencer beat Jim Bentley to the ball and headed past Barry Roche from six yards out.
Aldershot then added a second 10 minutes later with a top quality strike from leading scorer Marvin Morgan. The giant front man received the ball on the edge of the area and produced a delightful left foot curler that swung into the top right hand corner of Roche's goal.
Sammy McIlroy's side had much the better of the second half however and were on the front foot for the majority of the period. Unfortunately they came up against a home keeper in fine form as Jamie Young saved superbly from Craig Stanley's 25 yard drive and then Paul Mullin's point blank header a few moments later.
Young also tipped a Jim Bentley header onto the crossbar from Adam Rundle's corner to defy the visitors.
The Shrimps finally broke the deadlock on 66 minutes when Young as beaten by a superb 30 yard drive from Morecambe substitute Scott Brown whose right foot effort flew into the top left hand corner.
Unfortunately Morecambe failed to press home the advantage from there and failed to test Young again despite pushing bodies forward.
