MORECAMBE produced a superb performance to shock league leaders Port Vale.
On loan Torquay defender Keiran Charnock's was the home side's hero with his first goal for Morecambe giving the Shrimps their first win in five games.
The goal came on 27 minutes when Charnock was in the right place at the right time to sidefoot home Laurence Wilson's volley as it flashed across the six yard box from Garry Hunter's cross.
Port Vale started brightly with Kris Taylor testing Barry Roche in the first minute with a long range effort.
Morecambe hit back almost immediately however with Phil Jevons forcing Stuart Tomlinson to save low to his right after a quickly taken free kick.
Tomlinson saved smartly again from a Jimmy Spencer effort and a Phil Jevons shot that took a wicked deflection.
But the visitors always threatened with Marc Richards volleying wide from a good opening and missing the ball completely when he had a free header.
A Doug Loft dipping volley was inches over on 42 minutes as the Vale continued to threaten before the half time whistle.
The second half saw few chances with the best falling to Vale's Justin Richards but headed wide from six yards out when he looked sure to score from Doug Loft's corner.
Stewart Drummond returns for the Shrimps for this tough clash against top of the table Port Vale at the Globe Arena.
Drummond, celebrating his 35th birthday, comes in for Andy Fleming in midfield.
