A LATE goal from Scott Boden denied the Shrimps their first league win of the season.
Morecambe started brightly with Andy Fleming letting fly with a volley that struck Dwayne Mattis on the back and firing the rebound well over before Paul Mullin headed a free kick wide.
The Shrimps' early pressure paid off when Scott Brown opened the scoring on 25 minutes. A thrown in from the right was flicked on by Stewart Drummond and Brown crakced home the loose ball from 12 yards out.
Chesterfield hit back with Jordan Bowery heading a superb Dean Morgan left wing cross inches wide of the left hand post before Morecambe went close agains with Chris McCready missing a golden chance when he failed ot head home from close range.
Chesterfield stepped up the pace at the start of the second half with Craig Davies forcing Barry Roche into a save with a shot deflected by Will Haining. Full back Jack Hunt then volleyed over from the edge of the area.
Morecambe hit back largely on the break with Stewart Drummond forcing a close range save from Tommy Lee and Brown drilling an effort well wide from the edge of the arera.
Chesterfield were always threatning however and Scott Boden wasted a great chance when he missed the target from close range and Roche saved well from Craig Davies.
But Morecambe could not hold on and after Roche had saved smartly from a Davies effort but the Shrimps failed to clear and Morgan's right wing cross was volleyed home by Boden with eight minutes to go.
Shrimps boss Sammy McIlroy makes five changes to the side that last 4-0 at Oxford last weekend.
Scott Brown makes his debut with Garry Hunter, Paul Mullin and Will Haining making their first starts of the season. Chris Shuker earns a recall.
