Morecambe fell to their first home defeat of the season against Bury tonight.

The Shrimps were second best from the start and Bury took the lead after just two minutes when Mike Jones cut inside from the left on to his right foot and he produced a fine drive that beat Barry Roche low to his right.

Ryan Lowe almost made it 2-0 when he hit the post after some poor Morecambe defending but they did extend their lead on 21 minutes when Steve Schumacher beat Roche from 25 yards with a superb drive.

Lowe and Lennell John-Lewis both went close as Bury dominated but as the half went on Morecambe began to create chances.

Cameron Belfford was forced into fine saves from Stewart Drummond and Mark Duffy before the Shrimps reduced the deficit in injury time.

Craig Stanley swung in a cross from the left, the ball was only half cleared and Drummond volleyed past a crowd of players from 12 yards out to give the Shrimps hope.

Morecambe thought they had levelled on 48 minutes when Paul Scott headed home a Stanley free kick but the goal was disallowed for offside and there was more disappointment to come when Jim Bentley hit the post on 75 minutes as the Shrimps dominated the second half.

But there was worse to come as Bury scored two late goals through Andy Haworth and Schumacher as the Shakers hit the Shrimps on the break.

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy made four changes to the side.

Centre halves Will Haining and Chris McCready are ruled out with hamstring injuries while Garry Hunter and JImmy Spencer drop to the banch.

Jim Bentley comes in for his first game of the season and Craig Stanley returns. Paul Scott is in for a game against his former club and another former Bury man Phil Jevons also starts alongside Paul Mullin.
