TWO late goals from Clayton Donaldson saw Morecambe suffer their first defeat in four games.
Donaldson scored the winner three minutes into injury time at the end of the game after the Morecambe defence somehow left him all alone to head past Barry Roche from eight yards out.
Morecambe looked set for victory when Garry Hunter gave them the lead on 58 minutes with a neat shot on the turn and Jimmy Spencer went close to making it 2-0 but saw his shot cleared off the line by Adam Dugdale.
The Alex were back in the game with 20 minutes to when Donaldson scoreed from close range after Roche could only parry Joel Grant's long range effort.
The home side started quickly and almost took the lead in the opening seconds of the game. Joel Grant took advantage of Will Haining's slip and crossed to the far post but Danny Shelley just failed to get a touch on to the ball whgich surely would have diverted it past Barry Roche.
Moments later Clayton Donaldson headed a corner just wide from six yards out as Morecambe looked all at sea.
But then the Shrimps settled and went on to have th ebetter chances. Phil Jevons tested Rhys Taylor from distance and then fired a long range effort just wide of th eleft hand post.
Chris McCready headed a Kevan Hurst corner wide and then Jimmy Spencer missed the best chance of the half when he headed wide when he looed sure to score.
Boss Sammy McIlroy made one change to the side that drew at Gillingham last week.
Jimmy Spencer came back into the side in place of Danny Carlton up front while Laurence Wilson returned to the bench with Niall Cowperthwaite remaining at left back.
