THE Shrimps are out of the FA Cup after going down to a late Wes Thomas strike at Whaddon Road,
Sammy McIlroy's side battled well and were on top when they fell to a sucker punch when Thomas ran on to Jeff Goulding's through ball and produced a fine finish past Barry Roche.
The home side certainly had the better start and Shrimps' keeper Barry Roche was forced into four early saves, with two fine stops from Marlon Pack and another from left back Josh Lowe.
Morecambe were hanging on for a period but came into the game as it wore on and should have scored on 26 minutes when Phil Jevons had a free header but missed the target from close range.
Jevons again went close on 39 minutes with another header from a fine Craig Stanley through ball.
Morecambe started the second period strongly with Stewart Drummond forcing Scott Brown into a good save from a long range shot and the same player heading a Stanley corner over when he should have done better.
Brown had to be at his best again to tip away a clever Phil Jevons free kick before Stanley went close with a header from Mark Duffy's cross.
But then up stepped Thomas to break the Shrimps' hearts.
