MORECAMBE produced one of the result of the day with a 4-0 win at Vale Park.

The Shrimps led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Jason Price and Lewis Alessandra.

Price opened the scoring on 27 minutes with a close range finish after Stuart Tomlinson had blocked Danny Carlton's effort.

Ten minutes later it was 2-0 when Lewis Alessandra provided the coolest of finishes to neat Tomlinson after being played in by Nick Fenton.

Port Vale's only moment of threat came on 43 minutes when Sean Rigg's close range effort forced a save from Barry Roche.

Port Vale started the second half on the front foot with Marc Richards forcing Barry Roche into a great save with a shot from the edge of the area. Summer target Tom Pope also looked a threat and tested Roche with a close range header.

But after the pressure Morecambe regained the advantage. The excellent Alessandra twice fired over from the edge of the area before the Shrimps added two late goals.

Laurence Wilson scored from the penalty spot in 86 minutes after Gary McDonald was fouled in the box. As the final whistle approached Andy Fleming headed home Will Haining's cross from close range to cap a fine win.

Boss Jim Bentley welcomed Danny Carlton back into the starting line up for the game at Port Vale.

Carlton returned with Phil Jevons suspended and Kevin Ellison ruled out. Andy Parrish is also missing and Jason Price returns as the Shrimps go for 4-3-3.
