DANNY Carlton earned Morecambe their first home win since October 29 with the only goal of an entertaining game..
Carlton scored with a close range header on 53 minutes after Macclesfield keeper Jose Veiga had saved Gary McDonald's excellent low drive.
Morecambe had chances to win the game by a greater margin but Phil Jevons wasted two glorious late opportunities to wide the advantage and the home side were almost made to pay as the Silkmen staged a late rally.
George Donnelly and Ben Tomlinson went close and Tony Diagne was denied an injury time equaliser by a stunning save from Morecambe's debutant keeper Chris Kettings who flicked a close range volley onto a post to ensure the home side won at home for the first time since the end of October.
Macclesfield started brightly with Matt Hamshaw testing Chris Kettings in the third minute of the game before the Shrimps took the upper hand.
Carlton and Garry Hunter both tested Macc keeper Jose Veiga with shots from inside the box before Stewart Drummond saw an effort take a wicked deflection before curling just over the bar. Drummond then flashed a shot from the edge of the box wide and Hunter forced a good save from Veiga again on the half hour.
Macclesfield had moments of their own on the break and George Donnelly had a golden chance to open the scoring on the stroke of half time when he was found in the box bu Colin Daniel but flashed his shot over when he should have done better.
Young striker Jordan Burrow makes his debut for the Shrimps against Macclesfield tonight. Kevin Ellison and Danny Carlton also return to the starting line up.
