MORECAMBE suffered their second defeat of the Easter period when they went down to the odd goal in five at the Pirelli Stadium.
The home side took the lead after just six minutes when Adam Bolder was allowed to cut inside from the left hand side and create space to curl a right foot effort past Barry Roche from 12 yards out.
The sides then exchanged chances before Burton doubled their advantage on 39 minutes when Aaron Webster scored his 100th Burton Albion goal with a finish from 12 yards after being found by Calvin Zola.
The Shrimps hit back two minutes into first half injury time with Jordan Burrow scoring his second goal for the Shrimps as he converted from close range after a well worked free kick was played back across goal by Jack Redshaw.
Morecambe maintained the pressure with an equaliser just three minutes after the restart. Izak Reid floated in an excellent free kick and half time substitute Danny Carlton ghosted in to evade his marker to head past Ross Atkins from 12 yards out.
Burton hit back with Justin Richards firing into the side netting before Morecambe youngster Jack Redshaw created and wasted a glorious chance when he missed the target from close range after a superb turn in the box.
The game looked to be heading for a draw until the final few minutes of drama ended with the home side taking a welcome three points.
An Andy Parrish foul handed Burton a free kick on the edge of the Morecambe box and Chris Palmer stepped up to float an excellent free kick past Roche.
The Shrimps fought back and had a golden chance to equalise two minutes into injury time when they were awarded a penalty for a poor challenge by Zola in the box. The responsibility fell to top scorer Kevin Ellison but his effort was superbly saved by Ross Atkins and Burton earned the points.
Boss Jim Bentley made four changes to the Shrimps' side after the 1-0 home defeat to Swindon on Saturday.
Out went Stewart Drummond and Lewis Alessandra who were ill and injured respectively while Kevin Ellison and Danny Carlton dropped to the bench.
In came Izak Reid, Garry Hunter, Jordan Burrow and Jack Redshaw as Bentley went for a 3-4-3 formation.
