MORECAMBE suffered a sixth away defeat of the season after a stunning late Lewis Grabban goal earned Rotherham the three points.
The Shrimps almost went a goal down in the first minute when a left wing cross found Lewis Grabban in space at the far post but the Millers' top scorer failed to find the target with a low shot that fizzed across the goal area.
Danny Schofield then went close for the home side when he cut inside from the right and curled a left foot shot inches wide of the right hand post with Roche beaten.
The Shrimps then hit back with a Danny Carlton shot superbly blocked by home skipper Johnny Mullins before the home side took the lead in the 21st minute.
The Shrimps failed to clear their lines on the edge of the area and Grabban made no mistake with a superb, low drive to beat Roche to his right.
Roche was called upon to make two fine saves from Gareth Evans and Grabban before the Shrimps levelled with a fine equaliser in 38 minutes. Garry Hunter and Danny Carlton broke quickly and the ball ended up with Jordan Burrow in the box and the young striker produced a clinical finish to beat Andy Warrington.
The Shrimps started the second half poorly and went 2-1 down when Niall Cowperthwaite allowed Gareth Evans to get in a cross fromt the left and Jason Taylor slammed home the loose ball.
Morecambe fought their way back into the game when Ryan Cresswell fouled Danny Carlton in the box and was sent off for a second yellow card and Jack Redshaw sent Andy Warrington the wrong way from the spot.
The Shrimps' hopes of a point were dashed however at the death by Grabban's stuning late strike.
