MORECAMBE suffered their 11th home defeat of the season as they went down to champions elect Swindon in a tight game at the Globe..
Former Dagenham foe Paul Benson once again proved to the Shrimps' tormentor when he scored the only goal of the game seconds after the restart.
The goal was a real blow for Morecambe who had the better of the first half.
The Shrimps had the best chance of the half and it came after just five minutes when Lewis Alessandra was put through on goal and although his effort beat Wes Foderingham it sneaked inches wide of the right hand post.
Morecambe then had half chances with Craig Curran and Danny Carlton missing the target from inside the box before Swindon hit back towards the end of the half.
Kevin Ellison was forced to block Jay McEvely's shot and Simon Ferry fired over from the edge of the box.
The second half was left than a minute old however when Benson scored from close range after Lee Holmes headed back across the goal to find the unmarked front man. Benson was denied a second by a late Andy Parrish clearance and the visitors also went close through Holmes and substitute Ronan Murray.
Morecambe struggled to penetrate the visitors' defence in the second period until the final moments when Nick Fenton headed against the left hand post.
Jim Bentley named with the same side that beat Oxford last week with Craig Curran making his home debut for the club.
Barry Roche will be hoping to be able to celebrate his 30th birthday in style with a win over Paulo di Canio's side.
