Southend 0
Morecambe 1

AN early goal from Jack Redshaw earned Morecambe a welcome three points at Roots Hall.

Redshaw produced a superb right foot volley to beat Daniel Bentley after he ran on to Jamie Devitt’s pinpoint cross from the right hand side.

It was enough to give Morecambe their first win in four games but Jim Bentley’s side were forced to defend superbly as the home side, who came into the game on the back of four successive wins of their own.

After their perfect start Southernd hit back with Conor Clifford striking the crossbar with a 25 yard effort and Barry Roche saving neatly from Shaq Coulthirst’s close range header.

Morecambe went close to adding to their advantage when Redshaw was denied by the first of several fine saves from home keeper Bentlley when put through one on one after a poor back header.

The second half saw Southend push bodies forward with David Worral twice getting close to connecting with far post flick ons but it was Morecambe who had the better chances to score on the counter attack.

Bentley produced one of the saves of the season to palm away a Redshaw header and followed that up with fine saves to deny Kevin Ellison before Andy Fleming missed a golden chance to score a late second when he fired wide when put through on goal.

Southend piled on the pressure to the death but Morecambe held on for an excellent victory.
