JACK Redshaw earned Morecambe a last gasp point at a breezy Globe Arena.

The Morecambe substitute latched on to a superb Tom Barkhuizen through ball in the 94th minute and fired a low finish past Michael Ingham in the York goal to secure a point.

York, who played far better than their lowly league standing suggested, looked set for the victory after Michael Coulson fired them ahead in the 76th minute. The visitors took advantage of a poor ball from Alex Kenyon to launch a swift counter attack which ended with Coulson drilling a low shot into the bottom left hand corner of Barry Roche’s goal from the edge of the box.

Morecambe had come closest to opening the scoring when Redshaw, who was outstanding after replacing Jamie Devitt in the second half, hit the inside of the post with a shot from the edge of the area before the lively striker curled an effort inches wide of the left hand post.

Padraig Amond went close with a header from Andy Fleming’s corner before York scored what looked set to be the winning goal.

York were the better team in the first half and dominated for long spells without creating too many chances.

Ryan Brunt deflected a Marvin McCoy cross into the side netting in the 10th minute of the game and Keith Lowe headed a right wing cross over from 12 yards.

Jake Hyde went close to breaking the deadlock five minutes from the break but the closest they went to scoring was on 40 minutes when Jake Hyde turned quickly in the box but saw his final effort curl inches wide of the left hand post.

Morecambe’s only effort of note in the first half came with a Kevin Ellison free kick that hit the side netting.
