MORECAMBE recorded another excellent victory in the JPT Trophy with a Paul Mullin goal earning them victory over League 1 side Rochdale.
Mullin scored the only goal of the game on 16 minutes.
Jamie Devitt swung over a corner that was only half cleared and Mullin latched on to the loose ball to volley superbly past Joel Castro Pereira in the Rochdale goal from 12 yards out.
Mullin had the chance to make it 2-0 from the penalty spot on the half hour. Aaron Wildig was caught by home skipper Jim McNulty in the box but Mullin's effort was well saved by Pereira to his right.
The Shrimps continued to threaten with Wildig testing Pereira from the edge of the box and Laurence Wilson fizzing an effort wide from the left hand side of the box.
Rochdale had the greater share of possession in the second half but failed to create too many problems for a resolute Shrimps' defender.
Michael Rose was the closest to levelling for the home side with a free kick from the edge of the area forcing a Barry Roche into a flying save.
Substitute John Ayina also had a great chance when he was superbly found by Lewis Alessandra but the new Hornets' signing totally missed his kick.
The Shrimps then had chances to extend their lead with chances on the counter attack.
The best fell to Jamie Devitt who was put through on goal but dragged his shot wide of the goal.
The visitors piled bodies forward for the four extra minutes of added time but the Shrimps held on for another memorable win.
