Bentley On Plymouth Win

Jim Bentley was a happy man after his side move back up to second in the League 2 table on Saturday

Jim Bentley was a happy man after seeing his side overcome a strong Plymouth side to move back up to second in the League 2 table on Saturday.

Goals from Kevin Ellison, his fifth of the season, and a late winner from Jamie Devitt earned the Shrimps their fifth win from the opening seven games of the campaign.

Looking back at the win he said: “It was a tough game for us.

“I mentioned a few times last year about a fine dividing line and there wasn’t much between the two sides but thankfully we got that all important second goal towards the end.

“It’s very pleasing and it’s a big win for us.

“In the first half both sides went for it and there was some good football played.

“I’m a bit concerned about the amount of opportunities we gave them to get the ball in the box from set plays because they had that height advantage over us.

“But we scored a good goal from a well-worked free-kick routine ourselves which was pleasing.

“I thought the scoreline was about right at half-time and we tried to tighten a few things up but we went out in the second half and it was a bit lacklustre.

“Both sets of fans quietened down, the action on the pitch wasn’t great but we both made substitutions for the right reasons and tried to inject a bit of enthusiasm into the game.

“We kept plugging away and Kev mis-hit his shot but thankfully Jamie Devitt was in the right place at the right time to put it away.”
