Haining to leave

Defender finishes on a high

SHRIMPS' boss Jim Bentley paid tribute to Will Haining after he played his final game for the Shrimps at Southend today.
Haining gave an excellent display at Roots Hall in the 1-0 win before announcing he was to leave the Globe.
Said Bentley: "It's a similar story to Nick Fenton really. We wanted to keep Will and he wanted to stay but we could only offer reduced terms and couldn't agree a deal to keep him here at this moment in time.
"It's another disappointment for us as he showed today just what a good player he is but we know what we have to work with next season and that has to be the way forward.
"I would like to thank Will for everything he has done for us. He has been a great lad to have around and we wish him well for the future.''
Bentley added: "We have said all along there may be some senior players leaving because of the wage structure but that is where we are as a club and we are now ready for the challenge of bringing in new players for next season. We are watching a lot of games at the moment and are planning for a busy summer to bring the best players we can to the Globe.''
