Morecambe earn fifth successive point after coming from behind to draw with AFC Wimbledon

Morecambe secured a fifth successive draw in this tough battle against AFC Wimbledon at the Globe Arena.

Jake Reeves gave the Dons a 13th minute lead before Padraig Amond equalised three minutes from the break to earn the Shrimps a valuable point.

The |Shrimps made two changes from the side that drew at Plymouth last week with Andy Fleming and Alan Goodall returning to the starting line up in place of the injured Stewart Drummond and Alex Kenyon who dropped to the bench.

Wimbledon started the better with Adebayo Akinfenwa dragging a shot wide from 20 yards with only 30 seconds on the clock.

The visitors maintained their pressure and scored on 13 minutes. Sean Rigg and George Francomb worked a short corner on the right before finding Akinfenwa who showed great skill to tee up Reeves who scored from 10 yards out.

The game then swung from end to end without any real clear chances before Morecambe produced a fine equaliser. when Amond beat his man eight yards out to flick home Laurence Wilson’s superb left sing cross.

The Shrimps were first to go close after the break, Amond’s fine dummy allowing Redshaw to turn and shoot in the area with his effort going just wide.

The hosts were by far the brighter in the early stages of the second half and saw a penalty appeal for handball waved away  after Alan Goodall had risen highest to meet Jamie Devitt’s corner.

Morecambe continued to dominate without testing Shea, Fleming’s shot from distance sailing over on the hour.

Despite no shortage of endeavour, and the introductions of Kevin Ellison and Paul Mullin, the Shrimps were ultimately frustrated despite a late flurry.

The closest the hosts came late on saw Amond fire over on the turn from the edge of the area before a Fleming corner was hacked away from a few yards out deep in to stoppage time.
