Notts County Preview

29 August 2015

Match Preview: Morecambe vs Notts County, Football League 2, KO 3:00.

SHRIMPS’ boss Jim Bentley says his side will have to be wary of Notts County’s strength up front when the Magpies visit the Globe Arena on Saturday.

Ricardo Moniz’s side, who were relegated from League 1 last season, have been bolstered by the signing of prolific front man Izale McLeod who has joined for a reported six-figure fee.

And with former Blackburn Rovers striker Jon Stead also in the side Bentley knows the visitors have enough experience to hurt any team in League 2.

Bentley said: “They’ve signed McLeod who is a top-class centre forward in the lower levels.

“He’ll be a big player for them. It looks like they’re going to play him alongside Stead.

“I think the way they played against Aston Villa in midweek, when they scored three goals, typifies the way they’ve been so far, good going forwards and conceding a couple at the back.

“It’ll be a tough match for us. They’ve got a massive squad, quite a few of them are unknown to us with a manager I’ve not come across before.

“We always expect a tough game whoever we play at his level but it’s one that we want to win.

“We’re at home, coming off the back of a good performance at Portsmouth and want to get more points on the board.”

He added: “We know it’s going to be tough but we’ve got good players and we’re in decent form.

“Although we’ve got the four points on the board it could have been a few more.

“We finally found our shooting boots on Saturday.

“There’s still work to do at the back but if we keep creating chances then we’ll score plenty of goals.

“Hopefully it’ll be our day on Saturday.”
