Morecambe Scoop Top Pie Award
Morecambe Football Club are delighted to announce that they have again been honoured at the British Pie Awards, held this week in Melton Mowbray. Head Chef Graham Aimson and his team had multiple entries across various categories and during today’s final judging found out that they had been successful in two categories. First up was our Chicken/Ham/Leek pie which took first prize in the ‘Best Pie in Football’ soon followed by our entry winning the ‘Bramley Apple Pie’ category.
All category winners are then judged to find the 2014 Supreme Champion and for the 2nd time in 4 years Morecambe Football Club have walked away with the top honour with our Bramley Apple Pie being given the accolade of the ‘Best Pie in Britain’ thus becoming the first pie producer to win the top honour twice.
Graham Aimson was quite obviously delighted with the news but was quick to mention that the awards were very much a collective effort by everyone associated with the MFC Catering Team. Jackie Simpson must take huge plaudits as the Clubs Pastry Chef, to win the Supreme Champion in 2011 was a great honour to do it again 3 years later is absolutely fantastic and testament to the work that everyone puts in at Morecambe Football Club.
Every entry sent for judging this week can be bought on match day here at the Globe Arena. Graham went on to congratulate all of the category winners from the 2014 British Pie Awards and he looks forward to putting our best against all comers again next year.
On hearing the news MFC Chairman Peter McGuigan commented ‘huge congratulations to Graham, Jackie, Mark, Katie, Ryan and everyone connected with the catering operation at Morecambe Football Club. We were all totally blown away when we won the main award in 2011. We have been back winning categories every year since but never really thought it was possible to produce the ‘Best Pie in Britain’ for the second time. Everyone who visits the Globe Arena knows how good our pies are so for Graham and the team to be honoured in this way again is an absolutely superb achievement’
