Players' Return

26 June 2016

Jim Bentley says his side will return to training this week with their minds focused on a tough start to the season.

MORECAMBE boss Jim Bentley admits the Shrimps face a number of “tough'' early season fixtures but believes this will give extra focus to pre season training when the players report back this week.

He said:”The first couple of weeks of the new season are going to be tough without a doubt for us but sometimes that is a good thing because you know what you have to prepare for.

“Grimsby will be looking to hit the ground running in their first home game since getting back in the league and Blackpool will be looking for a good start after the problems they have had over the past couple of years.

“And then there is Portsmouth on the Tuesday which is always going to be tough because they will no doubt be the favourites for promotion once again and have strengthened their squad substantially in the summer.

“But we know what we need to do, Our pre season regime will be similar to what it has been over the past couple of years because it has served us well. We have a strong plan in place in terms of training sessions and the game time players will get and we will be well prepared for the start of the season.''

He added: “Some might say the fixtures haven't been kind but at the end of the day you have to play everyone twice during the season so you can't let it dominate your thoughts.''
