Redshaw Puts Family First

22 August 2014

The impending birth of his second child played a big role in his decision to remain a Morecambe player

STRIKER Jack Redshaw says the impending birth of his second child played a big role in his decision to remain a Morecambe player.

The Shrimps accepted a bid from a League 1 club for Redshaw's services last week but the front man turned down the move.

The 23-year-old, who has scored one goal so far this season, said; “Morecambe made it very clear that they didn’t want me to go but at the same time said it was a great chance for me to see what was on offer.

“I passed the medical, had a chat with them, they showed me round the place and then the actually wanted me to sign that day and play at the weekend.

“But I’ve got more important things at the moment, my missus is due a baby and we’ve already got a three-year-old so I said I needed to have a good think about it.

“I couldn’t jump into it. I went home Thursday afternoon and spoke to my family and a few hours later I made the decision.

“I’m not denying it would have been a great move for my footballing career but family is more important to me and there’s no chance I’d be able to leave my missus with a three-year-old and a newborn baby.”

He added: “It’s been a tough week.

“Everyone’s been talking about it since Tuesday. Everyone inside the club knew what was happening from Thursday but I’m just happy here and concentrating on playing for Morecambe.

“I think everyone knows I love this club, I love playing here, love being here and I’ve made great friends here.''
