Morecambe Ladies 4
Rochdale 0
Morecambe Ladies eased past Rochdale on Sunday to book their place in the final of the league cup for the second year running.
Megan Dougherty opened the scoring with two well-taken goals inside the first 10 minutes. On both occasions she timed her run to beat the offside trap before firing across the face of goal and scoring inside the far post.
Morecambe dominated the game in midfield, winning loose balls and limiting Rochdale to few opportunities to play in their strikers. Nicola Relph and Emma Gardner supplied some good balls forward and supported the strikers well. When Rochdale did break through, the Morecambe defence were equal to it, with Jayne Roper commanding the back line effectively.
Morecambe's third came from a surging run out of defence by Sarah Gardner. After some close passing between her and Jenny Keane on the edge of the box, Gardner shot found the net, ensuring Morecambe went to the break with a comfortable three goal cushion.
Morecambe's final goal was scored by Sophie Fish midway through the second half. A shot by Vicky Perry was deflected into her path and she placed the ball well past the 'keeper.
This was a very strong performance from an in-form Morecambe team who will be hoping to go one better than their result in the final last year, where they finished runners up.
