Morecambe clinched a sixth successive victory with a superb display at Vale Park.

Phil Jevons fired Morecambe into the lead after just 25 seconds. The in-form striker clipped in an effort from 25 yards that beat home keeper Chris Martin low to his left.

The second came on 38 minutes when a crossfield ball was diverted by Port Vale defender Kris Taylor into Paul Mullins's path and he made no mistake with a cool finish.

The second half saw Port Vale dominate the possession but the Shrimps defended solidly and restricted them to long range efforts.

Barry Roche was forced into fine saves from Marc Richards's close range header and Rob Taylor's long range shot but the Shrimps never looked like letting their lead slip as they kept their fourth successive clean sheet.
