The Shrimps had the better of the opening exchanges with Laurence Wilson forcing Andy Warrington into a good early save and Paul Mullin flashing a header just wide after a great run and cross from Mark Duffy.
Simon Hackney saw a volley diverted into the hands of Warrington before Rotherham came into the game.
The Millers' top scorer Adam Le Fondre began to find space and forced Barry Roche into two decent saves before heading over a cross from the right when Drewe Broughton looked in a better position.
Sammy McIlroy made three changes to the Shrimps side for the visit of Rotherham.
Will Haining and Andy Parrish returned to the back four while Mark Duffy was back on the right hand side of midfield. Darren Moss, Dave Artell and Wayne Curtis all dropped to the bench.
