A STUNNING late goal from Morecambe defender Darren Moss gave Morecambe a vital victory over play-off rivals Dagenham.

After missing a string of chances the Shrimps finally scored the goal they deserved when Moss chose the perfect moment to score his first Morecambe goal when he unleashed an unstoppable left foot volley that flew into the top left hand corner of Tony Roberts's goal.

Before then it had been a frustrating afternoon for Sammy McIlroy's side who, after a slow start, missed a host of chances.

After a shaky start the Shrimps had the better of the game with Wayne Curtis and Mark Duffy both shooting well wide from the edge of the area before a late surge.

Stewart Drummond was guilty of wasting two glorious chances in quck succession, missing an open goal on 45 minutes.

But Morecambe also hit the woodwork twice through Paul Mullin and Garry Hunter as they did everything but score.

Boss Sammy McIlroy brings back skipper Jim Bentley for the vital clash with Dagenham and Redbridge.

Bentley comes in for Will Haining in the back four which is without Laurence Wilson who is ruled out for the second week running with Phil Jevons.

Garry Hunter also starts in place of Neil Wainwright.
