Morecambe's defensive problems continued with a nightmare first half at the Pirelli Stadium.
The Shrimps got off to the worst possible start when they went a goal behind after just three minutes.
Despite all thr warnings about defending at set pieces the Brewers took the lead from their first corner of the game when Greg Pearson was allowed to head past Barry Roche from just three yards out.
Thirteen minutes later it was 2-0 to the Football League new boys when Jimmy Phillips beat Darren Moss and crossed to the far post for Russell Penn to volley home from close range.
The Shrimps were soon back in the game when Ian Craney opened his account for the season when he clipped a superb effort past Artur Krysiak from 20 yards out.
Phil Jevons curled a free kick just over but hopes of an early equaliser were dashed on 39 minutes when Shaun Harrod took advantage of a poor clearance to drill a low shot past Roche from the edge of the area.
Michael Twiss hit the crossbar with a superb effort but it was Burton who ended the half on top with Phillips forcing Roche into a fine save.
Any hopes of a second half comeback were soon dashed when Pearson added his second from the penalty spot on 54 minutes after the striker himself was bundled over by Danny Adams.
Phil Jevons pulled one back on 62 minutes but the Shrimps dropped their guard again on 75 minutes when John McGrath latched on to a loose ball to slide past Roche from the edge of the area.
To make matters worse Mark Duffy was sent off with five minutes remaining for a poor challange on Paul Boertian.
