The Shrimps were held to a draw in an entertaining clash against Rotherham in the first ever League game at the Globe Arena.

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy stuck with the same side that beat Coventry City 2-0 in midweek for the visit of Rotherham but it was the visitors who had the better start.

Start Millers' striker Adam Le Fondre went close after just six minutes when he dragged a shot wide from six yards after a poor clearance.

Two minutes later Danny Harrison tested Barry Roche from distance before Kevin Ellison volleyed over from 12 yards out.

Morecambe began to find their feet with visiting defender Dean Holden making a vital intervention to stop Adam Rundle's cross finding the unmarked Phil Jevons.

Adam Rundle fired wide after a great run took him to the edge of the area and also forced Andy Warrington into a neat save before the half time whistle went.

The second half started in explosive fashion with Le Fondre crashing a long range shot against the post and Rundle firing inches wide from an acute angle moments later.

Phil Jevons then shot over the bar from 12 yards before Rotherham striker Tom Elliott wasted a glorious chance as he headed a Le Fondre cross wide when unmarked six yards out.

Morecambe then also hit the woodwork when Chris McCready's headder came back off the post from Rundle's corner on 78 minutes.
