Posted on: Thu 05 Jun 2008

DANNY Adams took the top honours at Morecambe's end of season presentation evening.

Dependable defender Adams won the supporters and players' player of the year awards as the Shrimps celebrated an excellent season.

The former Stockport and Huddersfield left-back Adams said: "I've picked up awards at other clubs but this is a bit special.

"I'm delighted to get the award from the fans but the one from the players is always a bit special. It's always nice to be respected by your fellow professionals.''

Adams also vowed to come back stronger and fitter next season.

He said: "It's been a long season for us all and we didn't get a big break last year. I am looking forward to the summer but after a bit of a rest I think I will come back in better shape next season. It's going to be a tough year because people know a bit about us now but with a few decent signings I can't see why we can't repeat the success of this year.''

Carl Baker was also a double winner picking up the Visitor and Junior Reds player of the year votes while Garry Thompson won the Shrimpsvoices webs site award.

Andy Langford was the Reserves' player of the year with the Under 18s award going to Matthew Bell and the Under 17s trophy collected by James Fitzpatrick.

Junior Reds of the year were Rebecca Blackburn and Amy Fleetwood.

Club person of the year was Angela Kirk for her work in the club shop.

Speaking at the awards chief executive Rod Taylor said: "It has been a wonderful season for us and we have had some magnificent achievements along the way.

"To win at Preston and Wolves and get to within one step of Wembley was a marvellous achievement and we can really look forward to our final season at Christie Park.

"The board are fully committed to working with Sammy to strengthen the squad for next season and we hope we can build on our crowds as well. We have averaged more than 2,800 people at home games this season and if we can get to over 3,000 regularly next year that would be amazing.''
