Morecambe goalkeeper Scott Davies has signed a new two-year contract.

Wembley winner Davies said he was delighted to sign the new deal and said he wanted to push Barry Roche all the way for a first team spot this season.

The 21-year-old, who made some impressive performances at the end of last season when he replaced the on-loan Shwan Jalal, said: "I am delighted to have signed for another two years and I aim to challenge Barry all the way for the number one spot.

"I thought I did well last season when I came into the side but I am only young and I know I will keep on improving.

"Steve McIlhargey and Lee Jones have been really good to me and I have learned a lot from them.''

Boss Sammy McIlroy praised Davies's performances and attitude last season saying: "I have no doubt that Scott has a big future ahead of him.

"He is still very young and still learning but he was brilliant for us as the end of last season and I am sure he will get better and better over the next two years.''

Wide man Paul Lloyd also signed a new deal when he put pen the paper on a one-year contract.

The 21-year-old, who is another to have progressed through the club's youth system, may well get a chance to show what he can do this year after the departure of Garry Thompson.

Talking of the deal McIlroy added: "Paul has shown great potential in the Reserves and in training although his first team chances have been limited at the moment.

"But with Garry Thompson leaving this is the year he may get that chance and we would love him to take his opportunity when it comes along.

"He had a great game at Hartlepool last year and if he can provide that sort of performance on a consistent basis then he is another who could have a good career ahead of him.'
