Howard: "I'm here to fight for my place.''

Posted on: Sat 05 Jul 2008

Popular left-back Michael Howard says he is pleased to be back at Christie Park after a successful loan spell with Oxford last season.

The former Swansea man returned to the club for pre-season training this week and vowed to do all he could to challenge Danny Adams for the left-back slot.

Howard, who recently became a father for the second time, said: "I had a great time at Oxford. I played nearly 20 games, scored one and had a couple of assists as well.

"I needed some games and we did well when I was there and it is a lovely club. There was talk of a possible move there but that doesn't look like it is going to happen now. It was great to be back with the lads this week because I do love it here at Morecambe. We have a great bunch of lads and the supporters have always been great with me and my family.

"I am here to challenge for a place this year and I will give it my all. One of the reasons I went to Oxford was to keep match fit and it has worked in many ways because I have felt good in pre-season so far though I'm sure it will get a little tougher next week!!''
