Morecambe have tonight awarded two youngsters one year contracts.

Matty Poole (pictured) and Ben Jackson have been given contracts after impressing in the club's youth team and reserve squad last season.

Lancaster-born Poole, 18, generally plays in midfield but can play up front and was the juniors' top scorer last year.

Jackson, also 18, hails from Southport. He is a defender who along with Poole was a regular in the reserves'  climb up the totesport league table in the second half of last season.

Shrimps' boss Sammy McIlroy said: "Both lads did well in the Reserves last season and we will be looking to improve them as players again this year.''
