Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy was left frustrated by his side's third defeat in the last five games.

He said: "Chesterfield defended with their lives but we didn't have enough guile or cuteness to break them down and that was a disappointment.

"We had plenty of the ball and I couldn't have a go at any of the lads for their effort and commitment but in the final third we were very disappointing.

"We got into some great positions but didn't work the keeper hard enough, Our football was great at times and we hit the bar twice but at the end of the day we didn't make their defence work hard enough even when we got into great positions.

"After we came close on a couple of occasions I had the felling that this wasn't going to be our day and that it how it turned out in the end.''
