THERE is a great feeling around the club after two wins in two games - and we really needed it.
The win at Oldham last Tuesday lifted everyone and straight away you could feel the change.
It doesn't matter that it was on penalties and in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Football is about winning games and after a few matches we hadn't won a thing. Any cup match is a distraction from the League and that means there is no pressure on you and you can go out and play.
Oldham put a strong side out and Rochey in goal had to make some good saves - but we deserved to go through.
The win lifted that weight off the shoulders and it gave everyone an extra spring in their step for the Shrewsbury match on Saturday.
Even though we hadn't won in the League, I feel that we deserved more than the one point we had on the board We had played well against Bury and against Dagenham and the only match we didn't deserve anything from was against Rotherham.
In the Shrewsbury game we were good and solid against a team who have spent a good few bob over the summer. They have a good manager and they also have players like Michael Jackson and Graham Coughlan, who will not be playing there for nothing.
But we had that extra confidence from Oldham. It was a lift for everyone and that showed from the off.
We knew it was going to be a battle but I thought Rene Howe and Diarmuid O'Carroll up front caused them so many problems while we kept it tight at the back.
It was our first clean sheet in a competitive game since March and stats like that are all little milestones.
As a striker you look at the goals you score and for myself, as a defender, you look at clean sheets. You look at how many goals you are conceding so we were all delighted to have a shut out.
And to beat one of the division's fancied sides does you no harm at all and you can enjoy the moment.
I had a good sing-song in the shower after the game and I always enjoy the moment when we win.
It is a results business and there is no better feeling in football than getting three points.
As we always say, every game is tough; every game is a battle and we know it will be a hard game on Saturday down at Barnet. But we know them well enough from the Conference days and we know what to expect.
And I hope to be singing again on Saturday.
