TERRY McFlynn's dream of winning his first senior cap for Northern Ireland could become a reality after manager Nigel Worthington requested DVDs of the Sydney FC midfielder writes John Taylor in the Sydney Telegraph.

Worthington has so far ignored calling up McFlynn, who if chosen in the senior squad would join George Best and Warren Feeney as the only players to represent their country at all levels.

But Sydney FC football manager David Mason has revealed he had been contacted by the Irish FA to send over footage of McFlynn.

"Obviously the interest has stepped up because they (Northern Ireland) haven't been going well in their World Cup qualifiers,'' Mason said.

Northern Ireland have won just one of their four games against San Marino and trail Slovakia, Poland and Slovenia in their group.

"They do see highlights of the A-League over there but I've sent them over tapes of the games when we played Adelaide and Melbourne,'' Mason said.

McFlynn played Conference football for Morecambe before he arrived in Sydney and did enough in trials to convince (then coach) German Pierre Littbarski to sign him. Mason feels McFlynn has become a better allround player since John Kosmina took over the reins as coach of Sydney.

"He was known as a bit of a hardman, a tough tackler when he first came here and that's the way he played until Kossie (Kosmina) took over. Kossie has given him a licence to go forward and now we are seeing the other side of his game.

"He scored a terrific goal against Adelaide and that one against Central Coast on Saturday night wasn't bad either.''

Northern Ireland don't play their next World Cup qualifier until February 11 but they do have a friendly international coming up against Hungary on November 19. Meanwhile Kosmina is hopeful of having captain Tony Popovic and Robbie Middleby back to strengthen their defence for Friday night's match against Wellington Phoenix at the Sydney Football Stadium.
