Boardroom notes v Rochdale

Posted on: Mon 07 Sep 2009

We have moved 2 games this season from the traditional Saturday afternoon slot in an effort to see what effect this will have on the crowds at Christie Park.

It is something that has been considered and talked about for a while now and it will be interesting to monitor the results. Generally this can only work with clubs who are reasonably close geographically such as tonight's guests Rochdale as otherwise travelling for away supporters would be impossible.

Another good reason for moving the game this weekend of course is the clash with the England match tomorrow.

I write these programme notes on Monday lunchtime after spending the morning with Paul Mullin to complete his contract and undertake a medical. I would like to record my thanks to our Secretary, Neil Marsdin and our Doctor Duncan Matthew who both gave up their own time on a Bank Holiday to make sure we could complete the transfer before the deadline on Tuesday.

Paul is the latest signing during what has been a fairly hectic few weeks on the player front. After a slow start following last season and amid some concern from supporters that nothing was happening,we have certainly been busy of late bringing in players of undoubted quality and generating huge competition for places right across the pitch.

Whilst our start to the season has not been what we would have liked, I personally believe that we have the strongest squad ever assembled at Morecambe Football Club. I think I can now safely say that there will be no further additions for the foreseeable future!

Those of you who have travelled down Westgate recently will have seen the progress on the new stadium with the site now fully prepared for the construction phase.Things should now change quite quickly as our dream starts to turn into reality.

Enjoy this evenings game, give all our new players a warm welcome and let us hope we can kick start our league campaign with 3 valuable points.
