Boardroom notes v Notts County

Posted on: Sun 20 Sep 2009

Formed in 1862 and having hit the heights of the old first division in the early eighties and now look to be heading back towards those glory days since their acquisition by Munto Finance.

What a roller-coaster some fans experience at various clubs. I am sure all County fans were not exactly looking forward to season 2009/2010 having finished 19th last season, then suddenly hey presto finance arrives and the next minute Sven Goran Eriksson is appointed as the Director of Football at Meadow Lane. They must seriously be pinching themselves at the sudden transition, literally from rags to riches and I sincerely hope from the fans point of view they achieve their goals.

I did the programme notes for the corresponding fixture last year and would never have believed you if you had predicted the events at Meadow Lane. How fantastic for our fans to have such a star studded team to test ourselves against and with a bit of luck, perhaps even witness the debut of star signing and England International Sol Campbell, its breathtaking. This is one of the many benefits of achieving League status which we must never take for granted.

The game is a great challenge for Sammy and the boys, coming off the back of four consecutive draws and a clean sheet at Rotherham, which is highly encouraging. Football's such a fickle game. Home wins against Hereford, Carlisle and Rochdale would have given us 9 points and into the next round of the LDV.The directors are positive however that Sammy has established a very strong squad and there is all to play for.

This is a very exciting season as it our last at Christie Park, in respect of this we have an End of Era campaign running with a lot of special events and features so please keep in touch via the web site, you won't want to miss out.

Excitement is also building down at the new ground, piling has now begun for the main stand and in the next few months fans will be able to witness the stadium beginning to take shape. The new ground will transform the club into a 365 day a year business, which will truly take us to the next level.

Finally, with all the leagues fully under way it really does feel like football is back on the agenda. The England performance and some of the Premiership games showed just why the beautiful game is more attractive than ever, here's to 3 points today and the climb to the summit of league 2.
