Peter McGuigan v Northampton

Posted on: Tue 03 Nov 2009

The season so far has been one of "what if" - in that we have become the draw specialists of the Football League. If the two home games against Hereford and Rochdale were turned into victories for us then we would be in a mid-table position in the League and everyone would be looking forward to pushing into the top half of the table.

However, we didn't win these games and we are currently sitting four places from the bottom of the League. Last Saturday's game against Torquay epitomised our season so far in that we had enough chances to have won the game comfortably. Talking to several Torquay supporters at the end of the match, they said that we were the best team they had seen so far this season and that we fully deserved three points. I think this was reflected in the fact that we all felt bitterly disappointed that we only came away with yet another draw.

I am confident that under the leadership of Sammy and Mark we will start converting potential draws into victories and thereby make our move up the League table.

Obviously the injuries to key players haven't helped although no-one would use this as an excuse for not winning more games. Whilst on the injuries front, I can report that Manny Panther should be back within six weeks and that Will Haining and Barry Roche should be back within three weeks. I would like to welcome Ben Smith who has signed on a one month loan from Doncaster Rovers and in his first game against Torquay made a last minute fantastic save to secure the draw.

Hopefully, everyone attending today's game should have been offered an "End of an Era" brochure. This gives details of all of the events that we plan to hold during the rest of the season. I would ask you to look at it carefully and put the dates in your diaries for those events you wish to attend and also to pass on copies of the brochure to your families and friends. We need as much support as we possibly can for a historic last season at Christie Park.

Mark Dixon, our Commercial Director, has done a fantastic job in putting this together and if anyone has any questions to ask or indeed feels that something has been missed, then please contact Mark in the Commercial Office on Tel: 01524 411797.

Whilst we are in the throes of the End of an Era programme we also have one eye on the development of the new stadium. I am pleased to report that so far everything is on time and the stadium should be handed over to us at the beginning of July next year.

We are currently planning pre-season friendlies at the new stadium and also an official opening friendly, details of which we hope to announce as soon as possible. There is a huge amount of work still to be done and we are looking to strengthen our organisation in order to maximise the opportunity that the new stadium will present. Currently at Christie Park we are open only on match days, which is probably 26 Saturdays per year whereas at the new stadium
