Boardroom notes v Burton

Posted on: Thu 18 Feb 2010

Let's hope for lots of goals in this encounter as we experienced at the Pirelli Stadium back in August but in our favour on this occasion. I thought the gesture then by our fans welcoming Burton to the Football League was superb, I don't however, share the same opinion on conceding 5 goals on that occasion. Burton have sneaked past us in recent weeks in the league table, tonight would be a great opportunity to edge closer to them on what has been a commendable first season so far.

You may be aware that Trevor Fleet and I have had another "men behaving badly" conversation which culminated in our proposed cycle to Lincoln over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend following the home fixture against Crewe. We have enlisted Danny Birdsall's help, as we're using a triplet bike we needed a little young blood to help our tired legs over the Pennines. We had considered some water based endurance event having previously run and cycled long distances but we couldn't find a suitable route by canal to make the journey by pedalo, bad idea Trevor!

The journey will see us stay overnight by Leeds / Bradford airport and then Scunthorpe before arriving at Lincoln's home prior to kick off on the Monday afternoon. Having discussed matters with the clubs medical team it appears the defibrillator Trevor and I raised funds for ( with tremendous sponsorship from players, directors, staff and supporters at the club) by doing the Great North Run back in September 2002 is now past its sell by date so the purpose of our run is to replace it.This very important piece of medical kit is for both the benefit of supporters and players.

What does a defibrillator do, well Defibrillation is the definitive treatment for the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. Defibrillation consists of delivering a therapeutic dose of electrical energy to the affected heart with a device called a defibrillator. This depolarizes a critical mass of the heart muscle, terminates the arrhythmia, and allows normal sinus rhythm to be reestablished by the body's natural pacemaker, sinoatrial node of the heart. Basically it's similar to a set of elaborate jumps leads to get the old ticker beating again!

Nearer the time of the event we will update you and how you can contribute should you wish to.

To everyone, enjoy tonight's game and get behind the boys, your support is priceless!
