McIlroy working hard to strengthen squad

Posted on: Mon 25 Aug 2008

Boss Sammy McIlroy says he will be working hard to add to his squad before the transfer deadline this week.

McIlroy says he is keen to bring in at least two players to his squad ahead of the looming deadline.

He said: "I will be working to the final hour on the final day of the deadline. I'm trying to strengthen the squad again and will be working hard to do some business.

"Overall I am happy with the effort the squad has given me so far. They are giving me everything and I think the performances are getting better but we can't keep giving stupid goals away like we have been doing. We should have dealt better with both of Bury's goals on Saturday and the result was a defeat which I didn't think we deserved overall.

"Saturday was our best performance of the season so far in the League and we got a great start but when you concede Kamikaze goals like we did you can't expect to win games. We need to get our first win because the longer you go without it the more pressure is put on the players. I thought they put in a great effort on Saturday. It was a good all round effort but the goals we are conceding are killing us.

"We are doing well generally but we are making wring choices at both ends of the field and we need to improve our decision making. There were some plus points with Rene Howe scoring his first of the season and Ryan McCann making a solid debut in midfield but we have to work hard and knuckle down to make sure we get things right.''
