Boss happy despite defeat

Posted on: Mon 16 Aug 2010

Boss Sammy McIlroy says he was happy with his side's performance despite the 2-0 defeat at Wycombe.

McIlroy said his side could easily have taken something from the game against a team many fancy to be among the League 2 front runners this season.

Said Sammy: "I was proud of the lads. I thought they were fantastic and if things had gone a bit more our way we could have got something from the game.

"The football was great at times and considering we had four new players in the side everyone seemed to gel really well and if we play like that we will win a lot more games than we lose.

"Every single player deserves credit for their performance and it certainly showed me that we have something to build on.''

Talking about the penalty that gave Wycombe their opening goal he said: "Chris Shuker was unlucky to catch the lad and the ball was running out of play as well so it was really unfortunate. At the other end we had a claim ourselves when Adam Rundle went down but it didn't go our way and those things can happen.

"But although we are all really disappointed that we lost I think we have a lot to look forward to this season if that performance is anything to go by.''
