Sammy "lost for words'' after Burton defeat

Posted on: Sun 22 Aug 2010

SHRIMPS' boss Sammy McIlroy says he was "lost for words'' after Saturday's defeat against Burton Albion.

After seeing his side let a 2-1 lead slip in the last 15 minutes Sammy could not hide his frustration.

Said Sammy: "I can't believe we lost that game. In fact I'm lost for words because we were in control and I couldn't see them scoring.

"The only way they were going to get back into the game was if we made a mistake and that is exactly what we did. We gifted them the second and that gave them a lift and they got the penalty although Paul Scott said he didn't touch the lad.

"We need the players to take responsibility in games like this and nobody really did that when it mattered. We have to learn from our mistakes and move forward. We know from past experience that there is a long way to go yet but we can't throw points away at any stage of the season.''
