Yates closer to Port Vale move

Posted on: Sat 06 Jun 2009

The Stoke Sentinel reports that former Shrimps' defender Adam Yates will be Port Vale's first new signing under the Micky Adams regime when a deal goes through next week.

The 26-year-old had already agreed personal terms with the club after being released by Morecambe at the end of the season prior to Adams' appointment as manager.

Adams, who took over at the Vale Park helm on Friday, has backed the agreement and Yates is set to sign a two-year contract next week.

Vale chairman Bill Bratt told The Sentinel: "We had an agreement with Adam Yates which we should be obliged to see through.

"Micky Adams knows about it and we are going to sit down on Monday to look at the budget and at the squad.

"We have agreed with Adam that he will come to the club and I believe Micky is happy with that, even though his arrival was decided by the previous management regime. I think Adam will be an asset."
