Roche looking forward to Forest return

Posted on: Tue 12 Aug 2008

MORECAMBE keeper Barry Roche says he is looking forward to returning to his former club Nottingham Forest for Wednesday's Carling Cup first round tie.
Roche, who made a fine debut at Wycombe on Saturday is going back to a club where he spent six years as a junior before his move to Chesterfield.
He looks back at his time with Forest fondly saying: "It was a fantastic club to be at and a fantastic setting. As a club they really looked after me and I have a lot of fond memories.''
Roche actually played with current Forest boss Colin Calderwood during his spell and he says he won't take things easy against Morecambe.
He said: "Colin was a very talented footballer and he's done a great job as the manager as well. The Carling Cup is a good cup to be in for a team like Forest and I'm sure they will have watched us and know we are a decent side and not take anything easy.''
The Irish keeper says he would love to help the club repeat last year's Carling Cup success which saw memorable wins over Preston North End and Wolves.
"I was at Chesterfield and I was fully aware of the wins over North End and Wolves. They were fantastic results which showed that Morecambe were a club that could compete in the League.
"It would be nice to be a part of a similar run this year.''
Boss Sammy McIlroy says his side will be going all out to record a shock victory against Nottingham Forest.
Looking at the game McIlroy said: "It will be tough but it is a great place to go and another great experience for our fans.
"Who would have through two or three years ago that Morecambe would be playing Nottingham Forest in a competitive game like this?
"They are a good side and have made some excellent signings in the summer so we know we are the underdogs but I will tell the players to go and enjoy themselves.
"It's a great place to play, it's full of history and tradition but it is a great pitch and our lads should enjoy that.''
