Morecambe v PNE - Match preview

Posted on: Mon 10 Aug 2009

Shrimps boss Sammy McIlroy says his side will have nothing to lose when they travel to Deepdale for their Carling Cup first round clash with Preston North End on Tuesday night.

The Shrimps were drawn against North End for the second time in three seasons for the competition and will be looking to repeat their memorable 2-1 sucess of a couple of years ago when goals from David Artell and Jim Bentley shocked the Championship side.

The boss says Alan Irvine, who took over from Paul Simpson after that cup game, will be fully aware of that result and will be eager to avoid a repeat.

He said: "Alan will be reminding his players about what happened a couple of years ago and I know he will be doing all he can to make sure it won't happen again. Preston are a good side and they will be favourites but we know we have nothing to lose.

"I will be telling the lads to go out and enjoy themselves and enjoy the occasion. It is a great place to play football and these are the type of occasions all players enjoy. We played some great football on Saturday and I am hoping that we can reproduce some of that form again on Tuesday night. If we do I am sure we can cause them a few problems.''

Morecambe have been allocated 1,900 seats in the Bill Shankly Stand, the same area as two seasons ago. Supporters will be able to pay on the night priced at £12 and £5 for concessions.
