Shrimps' assistant boss Mark Lillis has told his side to put Tuesday night's Carling Cup success over Coventry to the back of their minds as they come up against last season's beaten play off finalists Rotherham United at the Globe Arena on Saturday.
Morecambe had a dream start to life at the Arena with the 2-0 midweek victory over Championship outfit Coventry City in the first round of the Carling Cup, but Lillis has told his players to forget that night.
He said: "Tuesday was a fantastic night for everyone but we have to forget about that now. It is great to win cup games but the league is our priority and this is a big game for us against a very good, strong side who will be challengers this season.
"The lads are in a good mood and have been looking sharp and we will be aiming to build on Tuesday's success especially as it is the first league game in the new ground. Christie Park became something of a fortress for us and we are looking to make the Arena as formidable.''
Lillis said his side would have to keep a close eye on Millers' striker Adam Le Fondre, a player who he has long admired.
He said: "We have Alfie his first contract when he was 16 and we saw then that he had something special. He was a born goalscorer and is a player who can hurt you.''
Rotherham boss Ronnie Moore will have a much stronger squad available for the trip to the Lancashire coast. On loan duo Dean Holden and Exodus Geohaghon are available after missing the Carling Cup game under the terms of their loan contract. There is also a return to the squad for Mark Bradley after he came back from the Welsh under-21s fully fit and striker Tom Elliott who had a knee problem. The Millers are still without Nick Fenton, Johnny Mullins, Dale Tonge, Tom Pope and Ryan Taylor through injury.
Morecambe beat the Millers 2-0 at Christie Park last season and drew 0-0 at the Don Valley Stadium.
